Water for all

Members from a poor suburban neighborhood in Cochabamba, Bolivia take action as part of a multi-sector Partnership to give the community access to low cost potable water and sanitation.

     
  The community participates in the construction of the water distribution systems. Here a 100 meter-long segment of HDPE pipe is being transported for installation at 2,600 meters above sea level.

Environmentally friendly rice

Mrs. Im Sarim, farmer in Peak Bang Oang village in Takeo province of Cambodia, holds up a rice plant, of traditional variety (Hamath) grown from a single seed with SRI methods. She harvested 333 kg of paddy from 500 square meter field, a yield of 6.72 tons per hectare, more than three times the national average. In some parts of her field, the yield reached 11 tons
per hectare.

Indian Ocean Dream (aka Madagascar's first community-run marine protected area)

In November 2004, a 3km 2  Marine Protected Area was established at the southern end of the i sland of Nosy Hao. Local fisherman act as guardians of the no-take zone, which serves the dual purpose of a nursery ground and safe haven for marine species, while at the same time providing a local tourist attractions.
     
  Local children on the beach at Andavadoaka. As well as introducing the Marine Protected Area, the partnership is working with the local community to conduct socio-economic surveys, capture traditional ecological knowledge and provide education to children in this isolated community.
